Student Leaders

A Student Leader is a young person (age 14-18) that is a leader, mentor and role model for the younger children in their local community that attend our after school and summer clubs. Student Leaders live in the same communities as the children they serve.

Student leaders work Mon-Thurs after school until around 6pm with their time divided between working in the after school club, one to one mentoring and tutoring. The programme is a fully fledged job with Student Leaders receiving a stipend, payslips, and employee reviews. This approach allows us to nurture young people into the world of work.

Our ultimate goal is to equip our Student Leaders to be ready for leadership in further education and the workplace, with a passion to eventually return to their community to live a life of prolonged servant-leadership in their respective fields.

All staff and children in our after school programme follow our SPIRIT values  (Servanthood, Partnership, Innovation, Reliability, Inclusion and Transparency). As a Christian organisation we use Bible stories to share and teach these values, however we welcome children and their families from all faiths and none at all.

Academic Tutoring and Support

Student Leaders receive free weekly tuition in a GCSE or A-Level subject of their choosing through our partnership with TutorFair Foundation. We help them to build confidence in their academic ability and give them the tools to thrive in education.

Experiences and Opportunities

Ice skating, art galleries, zoo trips, and days out. A rich and varied experience builds cultural capital and a rounded view of the world around us. Student Leaders have access to trips and experiences during half terms and holidays.

Life Skills

We want to prepare our teenagers for adult life. This means being comfortable in the kitchen, having control of their finances, and helping them to explore career opportunities. Student Leaders receive training in Food & Hygiene, budgeting, and First Aid.

Community Leadership

Our approach to teenage leadership is hands on. Student Leaders are full participants in planning for holiday activities. Their leadership even extends beyond the programme into local parks and the street as they see children from the community in their every day life.
